Basic Information

The following permits may be required for work in the County:

• Building
• Electrical
• Mechanical
• Plumbing

Building permit application forms may be downloaded or obtained at the Building Inspector's Office in the Administration Building, at the Hanover Courthouse complex or by calling the office at (804) 365-6040.

Completed permit applications must be accompanied by two complete sets of construction documents (plans, specs, calculations, etc.). Residential permit applications must include three plats showing location of proposed structure on lot with the distances to lot lines labeled.

Commercial permit applications must include an approved site plan or the site plan approval number. Site plan approval is required on commercial projects prior to permit application.
