Board of Supervisors
Hanover County's governing body is the Board of Supervisors.
Each of Hanover's seven magisterial districts has one supervisor, who
is elected to a four-year term. The supervisors make decisions on rezoning
and other land-use matters, pass ordinances, formulate policies, set the
annual County budget and tax rate, and, in general, direct the County
government.
The Board regularly meets at 2:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday and at 6:00
p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month. However, generally only one
meeting is held in July, August and December. In November, the meeting
that normally takes place on the fourth Wednesday is moved to the fourth
Tuesday.
The board also appoints citizens to various commissions
and agencies to implement specific policies or to provide certain services.
Each year the board elects a chairman and a vice-chairman.
