Jury Service

The Circuit Court’s Jury Coordinator starts the process of summoning jurors, answers questions, excuses jurors from service and makes them comfortable while they are at the courthouse.

Most juror interaction with the Court occurs through use of the Juror Call-in number (804-365-6352).  Jurors are responsible for following instructions on the juror summons and Juror Call-in number and reporting to court on time for trial.

Hanover County Circuit Courthouse, 7507 Library Drive, Hanover, Virginia. Hanover County Government Complex Map and Directions

How should I dress when I report to court?

Wear comfortable conservative clothes appropriate for a business environment. Remember you could spend a long day at court.

Is there anything I can do to make my jury service more comfortable, convenient, and enjoyable?

Certainly! While efforts are made to reduce delay and avoid waiting time, you may have to wait awhile at the courthouse before you find out whether you have been chosen to actually sit on a jury. So bring a book, some needlework, or other quiet activity; solve a crossword puzzle; write a letter; sketch a picture; or get to know your fellow jurors. Remember that as a juror, you are a vital part of the court system. Part of the job of many court employees, such as the bailiffs and clerks, is to help make your jury service comfortable and convenient. Don't be afraid to ask them for help.

How long will the trial last?

Jury trials vary in length. The Judge will tell you before jury selection the estimated length of the trial and give you the opportunity to raise any concerns about your ability to serve.

How much am I paid for jury service?

Virginia law provides that jurors shall be entitled to $30 for each day of attendance for expenses of travel incident to jury service and other necessary and reasonable costs.
