Recognizing Contributions Of Public Information Officer, Tom Harris
At a meeting of the Fire-Ems Chief’s Staff on May 27, 2009, PIO, Tom Harris, was recognized for his great success increasing awareness of our department's goals, needs, successes and activities.
Tom was acknowledged before members of our senior staff and several of our top operations officers. His outstanding performance communicating on our behalf was cited. Tom’s ongoing, “head and shoulders above”, effort is a huge asset to our team, system and service. The exposure, “good press” and publicity he achieves for many county departments is truly impressive. Tom’s genuine interest in announcing many aspects of our business has really served to increase awareness of our combination fire – ems department.
A plaque expressing thanks to Tom was presented at our headquarters complex. Mr. Harris is a great help, day in and day out. Our group found it important to honor his exemplary and very beneficial work.
Recognition Programs Introduced
Late last year Fire / EMS unveiled two new recognition programs.
A "Line Of Duty" recognition program will focus on on-the-job
performance - outstanding performance managed by field personnel
during fire and EMS calls. Exceptional (safe) performance within
our standard operating procedures and operating guidelines is critical
to this program. The top honor is a customized walnut plaque presented
by a top Fire / EMS officer at a "high profile" departmental
venue in the County.
Our new "Chief's Choice" certificate program was also
introduced. The East Hanover VRS and Beaverdam VFC received the
first of these new certificates. The Chief's Choice program is designed
to recognize team spirit, helpfulness and "the extra mile".
The honor applies to the broad aspects of our departments operations
and activities.
Links to the guidelines and a "flow chart" are provided
below and will explain the "Line Of Duty" recognition
program. The Chief's Choice Certificate Program shall remain a bit
more loose-knit and flexible.
All suggestions or nominations for recognition should be submitted
on a VRS, VFC or Fire / EMS letterhead and should be directed to
Cris Leonard in the recruiting and public relations office.
