Volunteer Fire Academy

Volunteer Fire AcademyThe Hanover Volunteer Fire Academy Program has been recognized nationally for its ability to train quality volunteer and career firefighters. The performance requirements on the fireground are the same for both career and volunteer personnel and the Fire & EMS Academy trains accordingly. The program is a rigid and physically demanding program that is designed to create highly effective, professional firefighters.

Training - StreamThe Volunteer Fire Academy is a six-month program that runs on a two nights a week, every other weekend schedule. Programs typically start every January and July, one school starting right after the previous one ends. Textbooks are available through the Training Academy and may be obtained once course registration is verified. An Academy duty shirt will be provided, but students are expected to provide their own navy blue work pants and black uniform shoes.

Graduating ClassStudents graduate with the minimum requirements for volunteer firefighters, including state certifications in Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Mayday-Firefighter Down. Some of the highlights of the Academy program include an opportunity for family members to see their loved one in action at the Academy Family Day and a formal Graduation Ceremony.
