This site is intended to showcase and acknowledge site plans for proposed new sites or planned expansions of existing businesses in Hanover County. Recognition on this page may be for a variety of reasons, including overall thoroughness of site plan preparation, speed of site plan process completion, innovative site plan design, cooperation among site plan review departments, agencies and the design team, potential economic impact of a project, and other significant factors that cause certain site plans and/or projects to stand out from time to time.

Owens & Minor Corporate Office Facility

Owens and Minor Inc., a Fortune 500 medical- and surgical-supply firm, is building its home offices in the Atlee Station Business Park, located on Chamberlayne Road at Interstate 295. The project involves construction of a 160,000 square foot class A office building on a 25-acre tract of land. The company's chairman and chief executive, G. Gilmer Minor III said that "We will be able to bring our people together in one building in this new facility and also provide expanded training capabilities."

The Owens and Minor headquarters will allow the company to locate all of its corporate offices in one building and is expected to generate approximately $250,000 annually in property tax revenues. The total number of employees at the headquarters site is expected to be about 475. The initial site plan submittal by Timmons Group, the engineers for the project, was on April 13, 2004 and through an expedited review process initiated by the Hanover County Economic Development Department, the revised site plan was approved by Hanover County on July 21, 2004. An early land disturbance permit had previously been issued by the Department of Public Works on May 17, 2004, which allowed site clearing and grading to commence.

Owens and Minor expects to occupy its new headquarters by early 2006.
