VDOT To Hold Public Hearing On 33/54 Intersection
Aug. 7, 2007
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a public hearing to receive citizens’ input on proposed improvements to the intersection of Route 33 (Mountain Road) and Route 54 (Patrick Henry Road) in Hanover County.
The design public hearing will be held Tuesday, Aug. 14 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at the Montpelier Center for Arts and Education located at 17205 Mountain Road in Montpelier. The hearing will be open-format with stations where citizens can talk one-on-one with VDOT representatives. This flexible format allows participants to arrive whenever their schedule will allow.
The proposed project would shift the current Route 33 to the east and add turn lanes. This would allow Route 33 motorists to have through-travel access to continue on Route 33 or enter Route 54. In addition, the intersection will be realigned to accommodate this new access. Once the new access is built, cul-de-sacs will be constructed on the existing Route 33 and Route 54 near the intersection.
Construction of this project would require VDOT to purchase right of way and easements. VDOT estimates one residence and no businesses would be relocated as a result of this project.
Residents are encouraged to offer comments or submit written material concerning the proposed project by Aug. 24, 2007 in order to be included in the public hearing transcript. All questions and comments will be considered prior to design approval.
For more information about the meeting, citizens may call VDOT's Richmond District Office at 804-524-6000 (TDD 711).
