Board Approves Picnic Shelter At Wayside Park
A new picnic shelter will be added at Hanover Wayside Park and the parking area expanded.
On October 28, the Hanover Board of Supervisors approved a conditional use permit allowing these improvements at the historic park. The new picnic shelter will be 24 x 36 feet and located near the easternmost portion of the park’s traffic loop.
Thirty new gravel surface parking spaces will be added and the location of a future restroom has been identified.
Construction should begin in the next few weeks and be complete in early 2010.
Hanover Wayside Park was built during the 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) as a Recreation Demonstration Areas Project. The park is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
It is also the location of the Hanover Veterans Memorial, where an observance will be held next week on Veterans Day.
