Leaf Disposal Options In Hanover
Hanover County does not pick up leaves, but County residents have several ways to dispose of them.
The County accepts loose leaves, grass and yard waste (limbs up to four inches in diameter and less than six feet in length) at its Mechanicsville Solid Waste Convenience Center and the Rt. 301 Transfer Station Yard Waste Area. The Elmont and Courthouse Solid Waste Convenience Centers accept loose leaves and grass but not brush. There is no charge for this service.
Leaves and grass may be bagged for transport but citizens are asked to un-bag them at the centers to allow for composting.
Hours at the convenience centers are 7 a.m.-7 p.m. every day of the week. Leaves/grass can be left at the Rt. 301 Transfer Station Yard Waste Area from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Saturday (closed on Sundays).
Directions to these County facilities can be found at http://www.co.hanover.va.us/works/sitesnhrs.htm.
Several companies in Hanover County have historically offered bagged leaf collections at varying costs and in varying amounts. Check with your hauler or local lawn service companyto see if they offer the service.
Remember, it is illegal to dump leaves, grass clippings, wood or any other yard waste into drainage channels, wetlands, or streams. Illegal dumping is hazardous to the environment and causes costly infrastructure maintenance and repairs.
