Living History Event At Polegreen Church
A Living History event will be held at the site of the historic Polegreen Church on Saturday.
Volunteers will tell the story of the Civil War soldier in this area between 1861 and 1865. The Richmond Howitzers artillery unit was forced to fire on Polegreen Church after Union sharpshooters began firing from the church, and the shells created a fire that burned the church down. On Saturday, the modern gun crew of the Richmond Howitzers will ‘give back’ what the original gun crew took away.
The camp will open at 10 a.m. with demonstrations and a historical overview at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The event will end at 4 p.m.
Visitors to Polegreen are encouraged to use the cell phone tour available at the welcome kiosk. For more information visit www.historicpolegreen.org
