Nov. 25 Is Deadline To Apply For Master Gardeners Training Classes

Flower.Wednesday, Nov. 25, is the deadline to sign up for the 2010 Hanover County Master Gardener Training classes which begin on Jan. 13, 2010.

Classes for the 60-hour training period will be held every Monday and Wednesday for 10 weeks in the Department of Social Services meeting room at the Hanover Human Services Complex, 12304 Washington Highway, south of Ashcake Road.

The fee for the class is $140, which covers the cost of the Master Gardener Handbook, the Pest Management Guide and other materials for each trainee. Interested individuals are invited to contact the Hanover County Extension Office, 804-752-4310 or ex085@vt.edu  for an application packet.

The training class includes the basic subjects of soils and nutrient management, botany, insects, plant diseases, pruning, propagation, safe pesticide use and integrated pest management as well as the more specific subjects of landscape design, vegetable gardening, trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, organic gardening, fruits, roses, lawn care and establishment, water gardening, wildlife management, water quality/conservation, yard waste management and more.
