2009 CITIZENS SURVEY RESULTS
- 96% of respondents rated Hanover County as a “good” or “excellent” place to live; nearly all respondents said they planned to stay here for the next five years
- 95% rated the overall quality of life in Hanover County as “excellent” or “good”; this was the highest percentage of any locality in the South Region that participated in the survey
- Hanover also received the highest score in the South Region as a “place to raise children”
- 93% said they felt safe shopping in Hanover’s retail areas during the day and 97% felt safe in their neighborhood during the day; at night, these figures were 68% and 88%, respectively
- 79% of respondents rated the overall quality of Hanover County’s government services as “good” or “excellent”
The survey was developed, mailed and analyzed by the National Research Center of Boulder, CO – Hanover’s response rate of 44% was one of the highest in the nation. Over 350 local governments across the U.S. have used the National Citizen Survey, enabling the National Research Center to compare Hanover County’s results with those of other localities of similar size and demographics.
