Important Tips For Voters
Requirements of a registered voter in Virginia:
- A citizen of the United States
- 18 years of age by the next general election
- A resident of the precinct in which you vote
- If you have ever been convicted of a felony, you must have had your voting rights restored
- If you have been declared mentally incapacitated in a Circuit Court and your civil rights have been removed, your capacity must have been restored.
Important Tips For Voters
Registered voters must notify the General Registrar either by mail or in person of any change in name or address prior to the close of voter registration for an election. This may be accomplished by:
- Writing the new information on the reverse side of your Voter Card, signing the card, and returning it to the Office of the General Registrar
- Completing and returning a Virginia Voter Registration Application
- Read your Voter Card for information about where you vote or call the Office of the General Registrar for information before going to the polls. You must vote in the precinct assigned by your residence.
