Law Enforcement Torch Run
The Virginia Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics unites officers from law enforcement agencies and corrections departments across the state in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Virginia. Torch Run efforts to raise funds include: T-shirt and Hat Sales, Motorcycle Raffles, Polar Plunges, Softball Tournaments, Tip-A-Cops, and much more.
Each summer, law enforcement officials carry the Flame of Hope across the state culminating with The Torch Run Final Leg, and the lighting of the cauldron to officially open the Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games in Richmond. The 1,900-mile, 8-day Torch Run involves more than 2,000 law enforcement officers and personnel representing more than 200 law enforcement agencies across Virginia.
Members of the Hanover County Sheriff's Office are excited and proud to support the Law Enforcement Torch Run and the Special Olympics Virginia for its dedication in helping those with disabilities. Special Olympics Virginia is a rewarding opportunity for success and benefits the lives of athletes, volunteers, and customers in the communities we serve. This event extends the boundaries of a department and unites officers in the region, throughout the Commonwealth and around the world.

Polar Plunge XIX

The Polar Plunge® Winter Festival is Special Olympics Virginia’s largest fundraiser, attracting more than 10,000 people to Virginia's beachfront in February.
This year the Hanover Sheriff’s Office Polar Plunge team "Hanover Heat" raised $6,031.18 which earned us 1st Place money raisers in the "Law Enforcement" category and 13th Place overall!!
Thanks to 3,252 Plungers, the Polar Plunge did the best they’ve ever done. That’s right; the 2011 Polar Plunge Winter Festival topped off at a “cool” $1 million, the most ever raised in the event’s 19 year history.
