Water Disinfection & Fluoride
Please note that water distributed in the Hanover
Suburban Service Area is disinfected with chloramines. The Suburban
Service Area is the crescent shaped area north of the Chickahominy
River, generally between and along Route 1 to the east and Creighton
Road to the east, including Mechanicsville, the Town of Ashland,
the Doswell area, and the Route 33 area adjacent to Henrico County.
Home dialysis patients and other special needs customers should
discuss this fact with their physicians. Customers with fish tanks
should also take the necessary precautions to assure the health
of their fish.
Hanover County Department of Public Utilities also adds fluoride
to water distributed in the Suburban Service Area. The Hanover County
Health Department recommends that fluoride supplements not be regularly
consumed by residents receiving water from this system.
Water from the rural system wells is treated with free chlorine
and there is no fluoride added. These systems include Georgetown,
Dianne Ridge, Oak Hill Estates, Strawhorn, Sinclair Manor, Hanover
Wayside and Taylor House.
